On behalf of our Board of Managers, our faculty, our staff, and our students, I want to greet you and thank you for your interest in Friends Theological College. Whether you are a prospective student, a potential faculty member, a part of our supportive constituency, or just curious to know what Friends Theological College is, we think you will find the information you need on this site. FTC has the particular distinction and challenge of being the only Quaker institution in Africa offering theological education at the certificate, diploma, and degree levels. It also offers an advanced certificate in chaplaincy. Each student and faculty member who joins us in this calling contributes their own gifts and energy to this endeavor.
Higher education has grown very rapidly in Africa in recent decades as the need for advanced education becomes more crucial for the challenges of this century. A major part of that growth has been the rapid expansion in the demand for post-secondary studies in Christian ministry and leadership. Christianity has grown impressively in Africa and its leaders need to be grounded ever more deeply in Scripture, theology, and effective ministry methods.
Our sponsoring Christian movement, the Religious Society of Friends, also called Quakers, has more members and participants in Africa than anywhere else in the world. In a certain sense, Quakers in Africa are the leaders of the Friends movement and that leadership challenge requires generous amounts of talent, vision, wisdom, and humility.
We welcome your interest in FTC and look forward to your further inquiries. You are welcome to pay a visit to our campus or to contact me or other FTC leaders. KARIBU!
